SHORTFILM Kia Orana | TROPFEST FINALIST 2014 | NEW ZEALAND
DIRECTED BY LENNIE HILL | PRODUCED BY TIAIRANI DROLLET LE CAILL
On a routine patrol, five warriors unexpectedly come across a coconut that happens to be a ukulele. But not just a single and ordinary ukulele but a string of ukuleles; they muse over the rock hard nature of the ukulele’s coconut head and liken it to their mate’s head. And by chance they gather up the ukuleles and innocently begin to strum like they have never seen nor played together or individually with any of these instruments. The pace picks up as they seem to get a grip over the instruments. From zero to hero the composition becomes outstanding. But then a string snaps and almost as quickly as the string snaps they break away from the music and all it means to them. They walk off into the sun. Through sunglasses a colleague reflects on what might have been, smiles quietly, in profound silence - he too walks off.
